Anecdote.
The inhabitants of a scull town in
Ohiit, wore recently put in a great state
of excitement, by the announce uient that
Kossuth would pass through their Tillage
at a certain hour. Accordingly, every
person that could walk uuu, woman and
child was at the Depot at the expected
iuunieut, prepared to give a warm welcome
to the nation's guest. It so happened that
Kossuth did not arrive iu that train of
ears, but a returned Caiifrnian was there,
who prided himself on a nisguificent
moustache and a heavy grow th of black
whiskers, and sported a Kossuth hat aud
pluuie. Upon seciug the parade, In
stepped forth upou the platform, to the
great amusement of his follow passenger,
and was received with, three times three
hearty cheers ! lie raised bis bst and
plume, aud bowing gracefully to the as
sembled company, remarked that owing to
Lis past labors, be was in delicate health,
aud should not be able to address them at
any length, but thanked them most sin
ccre'y for their sympathy with " down
trodden" IIuDgary, and amid deafening
hurrahs returned to their seats in the
cars. The conductor gave the signal, the
train moved on, and was soon out of bear
ing. The inhabitants of that village will
undoubtedly go to their graves iu the firm
couviction of Laving seen and listened to
II JDg&ry's great patriot. Button ,1urual.

The bill to prevent the sale of spiritous,
vinous or maltish liquors in less qua.ul.ity
than thirty-one gallons, passed the Senate
of Pennsylvania on Thursday last, and was
sent to the House of Representatives for
concurrence on the same day. Whether
the House will concur is a debateable
question, and one which, quite a large
number of the members would just as
Lave not sec debated or agitated ; but the
matter is before them," aud it is bard to
dodge the question. By many it is regar
ded as a question likely to lay them iu
their political graves, no matter how they
rote, and hence the indisposition to meet
it face to face. But will dodging it uot
just be as likely to slaughter lliem, as to
meet it fearlessly ? and we apprehend the
present Legislature is as lit for the slaugh
ter as any that is to come after it. Dem
ocratic L'uion, ((irmiury.)
p3Mr. Partington remarked to Lis
wife that be bad decided to make several
oppositions to bis bouse and actually pur
chased some of the immaterial for the
purpose. What do you propsi to do V
ti iid Mrs. P. "Why, my dear, I mean to
build a lemonade in front, aud set out a
revenue from the street to the front door."
'Au 1 why not, my dear busb.iud, run a
position through the large room, and make
it snug like so that when our frietids
call, wc can treat them kiud .f hostile ?"
It will be a good place," i-aid he ; "and I
Lave been thinking of bringing down the
wolf-pit t-pring " an anecdote, so ta to
