Mr. Editor : There is no doubt that U
mon county is entitled to the President
Judge this fall. It is equally certain that
the present Judge cannot and ought not to
he continued. And too much care can not
be taken to act in this matter with deliber
ation. A President Judge should be com
petent, in all respects ; and 1 don't know
any one in the District more suitable for
tint post than Hon. Joski-h Casey. lie
is a well read lawyer, of marked ability,
and success, second to none at this bar,
and would preside in our courts, and write j
and deliver charges to juries' and dispatch l
business generally, with a dignity courte
sy and efficiency, credil'ible to himself and
the people of the District. In my opinion
lie would make the most competent, sale
and reliable J mine of any lawyer in Mif
flin or Union. Buffalo.

Mn. Ei'iTon, I am glad to see people express
llicir wishes in tunc about the men they wish
elified ih-s fall. Several gentlemen have been
named in the different papers, for Senator. Hut
I Jecidedlv prefer Col. Eli Slifer, before any
others who have been mentioned for that office ;
and there are many persona down here of my
wav of thinking on Ibis subject. Col. Slifer has
hern one of the best ami most industrious mem
bers we ever bad in the House prudent, talent
rJ, energetic and upright. He is personally pop
ular, more generally and favorably known in the
Jii-lnct than any other one who has been named;
sod I think could carry the District with mora
ease than any other person we could nominal.
I don't know what bis feelings may he on I lie
subject, but I and my neighbors have resolved to
go in for bis nomination heart and hand.
