This I will not stand, nor would ha either. or any other man. after ruts representing my Machine as did Mr If. My object in mentioning in my athertisement anything about the Doser Machine. was simply to correct some misrepresentation '4 matte in re gard to the two M.lcli, nts, so the publi• would not confound nar Machine with the Duffer Ma. chine. but as the matter has gum: so far, I shall try to co:1-r( t •u;ne of his expressions.— First, my friend thinks I inu:4 be - hard up for pales." So long as 1 can make more sales than 51acbines, and sell every now and then one to a wan who tried Mr. llotTheius' poser Machine last season, and sell them too at toy regularly establishedprices I, at least, itui satisfied But don't it t 00k as if Mr. Mahe-ins is .' hard e up to make les," u hen he utters hia Machluca for a less price than the same Machine is offer ed hy other manufacturers of the s,sme Machine? 2d. My friend 11. thinks I -must be very nch excited, or afraid of the Bail 31/id/int..'l I would inform my fricud and the public, that 1 was at thegreatest practical field trial of Reapers and Mowers el er held in the United States, at Nyracuse, 30U miles west of New- York city, In July, 1b.7, when all the different Machines were tried, in every shape and turn, and after all was over, the first premium, grand gold Medal and Diploma, was awarded to the Buckeye Machine as the best Slowing Machine, over Burrell's, lialleuliack's, fiat)) 'a, Heath's, Ho vey's, Ball's Ohio Mower, Manny's, Kotchum's, and a number of others. I hare nu reason to be excited or afraid of the Ball Machine, after It has been licked at such a great trial. rhave seen wore different Machines work, than my friend H. ever knew or beard of, and could have bad the mating of the Ball Machine before he ever knew anything about it. ad, My friend H. says, •' a kicked dog will boiler," in which I must give him perfectly right, When he read my advertisement, he was kicked, and then he hollered ; he only made a mistake; for be was Ihe kicked dog. I would not want to be kicked any harder than a have all the Machines of one season's make brought back, after baring made a great blow-out host I Was going to take all the other Machines down, and before bating any experience or trial 4th. 3fy friend 11, thinks I misrepresented the thing, by laying that i01:11C of his Machines were "lying in the fence-co - ram "---that was the report, I can't say that I saw one of his Ma chines exactly in a fence-corner, but I did see one of his Michines in a field—where I started one of mine aside of it—which had better been to a fence corner, out of the road. 6th. My friend denies that be made the Ball Machine last Summer, and states that I knew it. I don't know what be called hie Machine at the end of the Season, •hp t at the beginning of it, the cry was Mr. Moffitt:ins is making the Ball Reaper and Mower. Now I can't see where this talk can have originated from than from Mr.Horbeins hithselkthe maker of the Maehine. So, if I misrepresented that, I think my friend can blame himself for it ; men wanting Machines will generally enquire the name of it, and whose patent it is. Now, Mr. 11., what was the name of your Machine at the end of the season? 6th. As to the honesty he talks about, if we were to exchange, there would he very little boot coming to bun ; and as for my agent tell ing him that we made machines to cut behind the driving wheels last snpimer and could not make them work, the agent says be told Mr. H. that we could not make quite as nice a sheaf as on; other way of raking off, which is quite a different story from what Mr. H. says. We wit-la him not to make so many changes in his state ments. We made only one Machine last season to eat behind—he says Machines; and as for cutting, if our friend will ever make a Machine to equal it he wili.do well. All that was ever said in regard- to its working the raking off in grain, I had six different men on to rake off, and all agreed that they could make the nicest sheaf with the cutting operation in front. My friend charged me with misrepresenting, but he can beat cue far at that. He asks why I do not make my Machines to cut behind? I am ready to make all that are ordered, and insure them to ce„t as well as any other double driving wheel Machine. Mr. H. talks about his Machine being so per fectly balanced, hating no weight on the tongue at all. From my practical experience I. think that any fool nim,t know that a Machine EXACT LY balanced, standing on level ground, must tilt up cutting up hill. I don't want mine so well balanced as that, because we don't want to get off the Machine and walk up the hill to rake the grain off. We prefer riding on the Machine all the time to rnke off. Now, farmers, which will suit you best, a Machine that will tilt up go ing up hill, or one you can stay on all the time? If the latter, you can get them at znyssbup ;and further, a Machine that you bit in front of cut ting apparatus, so if you are by accident tPrown off, you are in danger of being cut up, as I know of two cases having happened on a Ma chine that you set behind the cutters. If dimwit off of my Machine yon are entirely out of danger. If the latter suits you best, yuu can get them at my shop. Now, my friend Hoffheins, Do not get excited at these few lines. Souse day we will have a mowing match, In some tangled clo% er-patch, And whoever can do the best mowing, Will have all the chance for blowing. When the mowing match we attend, I expect to meet you as a friend. J. H. East Berlin, June 4, 1860. tf NTOr may talk about your Gas lights just as you please, but there is one thing certain, It. G.
