OBITUARY
We have recently been informed of the death
of DANIEL V. JOYCE, who died January 3uth.
1:30;0, at Indian River, Florida. It is always a
melancholy duty to have to announce the death
of any one, but more especially so when the
deceased is a dear friend. Danisl V. Joyce,
the subject of this obituary, was born January
1e33, at York Springs. Adams county,
Pennsylvania. He remained in the county un
til about the spring of 1 to,when he remeved
to Philadelphia. for the purpose of pursuing
his studies, "'hid, he did is nth honor to himself
and credit to hie teachers. Early in life he
evinced a taste for the fine arta, and when quite
a youth chose fur Lis profession portrait paint.
lug. with inure or less landscape sketcbiug, for
which he had also quite a talent. in striving
to be a proficient in his art he became a very
close studeut fr occupyiag most of his time with
his beloi ed art. which, together Nigh net a too
robust constitution, caused his rt , talth to de
cline, and brought him to an early grave. He
was a ripe scholar—a warm and affectionate
friend, a dutiful son, arid, as a true artist, he
had but few equals of hie age and experience.
and I can safely say no one could excel kiln la
portraying upon canvass the life-likeexpression
o' the human countenance. In him Philsidel
ilia hos lost a talented son. and the community
at large a must excellent artist. To his many
friends and loving rel itions, we would offer •
tear of sympathy and a sigh of regret at his early
.departure from amongst us. and though he died
far away from his home, and the friends of his
tarter years, yet he met with all kindness, care
and attention in the land of his sojourn. He
:deeps upon the bosom of the sunny South—and
over his newly made grave the orange tree
flied+ a rich perfume, and the song birds of the
Tropics chant it requiem to his departed spiels.
