the individual above named, was found "not guilty"
of the murder of David Blubaugh, but recommend

He was accordingly tried last week,found guilty,
and sentenced to three .months imprisonment in

influence of MASONRY on the PtiEss. It either
suppresea truth, or perverts facts, so far as Mason
ry is concerned. The Editors say, that Mr. Rash's
declining to be a candidate for the Presidency,
"goes to show his opinion,flint_Maiumry_or„Anti-
Masonry ouglit to have nothing to do with the
election of the i bief Magistrates of the Union."
NOW the TRUTH I is, Mr. Rush's letter shows no
such thing, but quite `the reverse, 'that those
should be the -paramount considerations." We do
not-believe that those respectable Editors intend
to deceive the public. They had probably not
read Mr. Rush's letter. They scarcely dare read
any thing against Masonry. But we doubt not,
when they disc Over the error by them committed,
they will promptly correct it, by publishing the
letter itself, that the People may know the truth.
They will, unless the Masonic Oaths prevent it,

from Havre, the New York American has
Paris papers to the 8d ult. they furnish no
news. Under the Paris head of 29th June,
we find the Courier des Electoure this para
graph ;
"The Exchange today was 'thrown into
consternation by rumors ego war was deci
ded upon, that Prince Leopold refused the
crown of Belgium, and that M. Casimir Per
rier would retire from the Ministry. A great
fall in the stocks was the immediate conse
quence of this rumor..
The Muniteur in a second edition publish.
ed at half past six o'clock; inserted a note
declaring these rumors wholly without foun
dation, and that the most perfect harmony
had not ceased to pre/ail among the Powers
as well Us in the French Cabinet."

The Glasgow Chronicle, in the course of

"The House of Lords may constitutionally
disagree with the House of Commons, but
the constitution, in providing for the crea
tion of new peerages, has made it impossible
that it should disagree with the King.-

LONDON, July 7. Th e Funds.—One
o'crock.—The city is in a very agitated
state; the reform bill at, home, the unsettled
state of France, and an expected explosion
at;Drussels,-have occasioned much political
discussion here. Two expresses are stated
to have arrived from Brussels, and as the
reports are gloomy, consuls from 83 have
thilen to 82k, which is now the present quo
tation.
Turn Out of Calico Printers.—We un
derstand that the great.lnajority of 'the jour-
neymen Calico Printers in this county are
now out-of-employirient, -having -101.. their
work - um - Friday and -- Saturday last, in con
sequence-of -a proposed reductioti in their

&c. came on this morning in the. Court of
King's Bench. The Attorney Generalid
dressed the Court in support of the prosecu
tion, and called a witness to prove the pub
lication-of -the-Register of of-De--

then began tO. address the court in his de,
- tbnce; -- allegiriv Oat - Abe — prosecutions had
been instituted bythe whig ministry because
lie had refused to support them. His ad
dress-was-not-concluded-when-the-reporters
for the London papers left the court. He
had summoned a great number of witnesses
and among them all the cabinet ministers,
most of whoth were on the - bench during his
address.
BELGIUM.—After a debate of several
days, the question on' whieli the assumption
of the throne by Prince Leopoledepends,
still on Tuesday last, (Sthiremained unset
tled. Great violence had been displayed by
the war party who also had in the first in
stance, much the largest share of the talk.
The friends of peace and order however, at
length succeeded in gaining the attention of
the House, and several of them, and particu
larly Mr. Lebau, Minister for Foreign Af
fairs, are stated to have spoke with great
talent, discretion and effect. It is now as
' serted that there is no longer any doubt of
the proposition being excepted by a consid
erable majority.
FRANCE.—The Paris papers of Tues
day (sth) with the Messager des Cha,mbres,
dated yesterday (6th) arrived this morning.
With the exception of two articles in the

The funds have again taken a fall. On
Tuesday the 5 per cents closed at 85 90c;
the 3 percent iat £56 50c. The elections
can; it is said in some ot the papers, only ge

to the opposition. A privafe _letter States,
that several arrests, connected with a con
spiracy in favor of the Ex-Royal Fiunily,
have been made in the south of France.
POLAND.—According to a statement in
the French papers that the patriots in Lith
uania were encompassed by the.enemy, and
fropi whom they could escape only by a bat
tle. Accounts from. Warsaw to the 27th
ultldiscredit this news, for every thing there
lookid prosperously. The Russian
.army
in Poland had dwindled down from 150,000
men to 68,000 infantry, and 19,000'cavalry,
having 332 cannon.
LIVERPOOL, July . ft.—The next post
