PSMA crowns semester with Circa Survive show
By Courtney Warner
FOR THE COLLEGIAN
Music fans have one last oppor
tunity to mosh and rock out before
finals when Circa Survive per
forms tonight in HUB-Alumni
Hall.
The two opening acts
Mercies and Erick Serna will
begin at 7 p.m. The Penn State
Marketing Association is sponsor
ing the event.
Progressive rock band Circa
Survive’s concerts are inspiring
because lead singer Anthony
Green does what other musicians
are afraid to do he performs
without limits, Serna said.
“Circa Survive is straight-up
energy,” Serna said. “They bring it
hard they play everything as it
sounds on their records and the
live show only makes the experi
ence that much more intense.”
The show was organized as a
stress reliever for students before
they start preparing for their
finals, PSMA Entertainment

Chairwoman Melanie Versaw
said.
“Circa Survive’s performing
style and music gives students
something different to look for
ward to,” she said. “I’ve seen them
perform three times before and
each time they do something dif
ferent that surprises me.”
The association chose Circa
Survive as the headlining act
because its rock sound is different
from the country, pop and hip-hop
acts that have been booked in the
past, Versaw (Junior-marketing

This won’t be any of the musi
cians’ first time playing at Penn
State. When Serna and members
of Mercies were associated with
band Dear Hunter not to be
confused with the popular indie
band Deer Hunter they played
a concert with Circa Survive three
years ago.
Chris Damiano (freshman-divi
sion of undergraduate studies)
said the price of admission $5
with a student ID is a good deal
for the quality of Circa Survive’s
music.
“Circa’s style is so unique
because they do their own thing,
which makes them hard to com
pare to other bands,” he said.
Damiano said the band will
have no trouble connecting to the
audience.
“We can relate to them because
they aren’t that much older than
us,” he said. “It’s not like people
are seeing Bob Dylan, who’s gen
erations older than us.”
Serna said his “bluesy” music is
different from Circa Survive’s.
