Katie Moore/Collegian Seat policy takes effect By Brendan Monahan COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER A family formed in Beaver Stadium's Section WA only 10 b rows from the field during Carmella and John Almquist's 30 years of holding Penn State football season tickets. This small family, gathering every fall Saturday, was together through good and bad, divorce, marriage and death. During the 2011 season, it will go through another divorce when the Seat Transfer and Equity Plan (STEP) goes into effect Today is the last chance for season ticket holders to declare their intentions concerning 2011 season tickets to either retain, upgrade, relocate or waive them. The Alrnquists, as well as the others in their section, are the exceptions. They don't have the option of retaining their current seats because the student sec tion will include more south end zone seating, forcing them to give up their seats. "I have mixed feelings," Carmella Almquist said. "Everyone needs money ... Penn State is just keeping up." Penn State and the Nittany Lion Club initiated the program last spring as a way to increase revenue for its self-supported athletic department. The plan calls for an organized pay model: the larger the donation, the bet ter the seats. In the seats calling for the highest donations known as the Green Zone, or sideline seat backs between the 40-yard lines Penn State will call for a mini mum $2,000 donation per seat, on top of the ticket price. The Blue Zone in the north endzone and south upper deck endzone requires a donation of at least $lOO a seat. For ticketholders like the See SEATS, Page 2. More coverage on Penn State foot ball.
