with psu " Caef Sanderson ?.° KIB s^OR- PSU alcohol stats onnse By Kevin Cirilli COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER University officials and authorities are compiling the lat est Penn State alcohol statistics, predicting an increase for a year in which the university was dubbed the No. 1 party school in the nation. ‘‘lt’s essential for students to come together individually and in their organizations to discuss what's going on with alcohol,” said Linda LaSalle, Penn State University Health Services (UHS) associate director of Education Services. “Ultimately, the individuals who have the most amount of power to create change to this issue are stu dents." The Campus and Community Partnership, made up of univer sity and borough officials, releas es an annual report on alcohol statistics after consulting with police, medical and administra tive officials, LaSalle said. The statistics are likely to be released in the coming weeks Last year’s statistics showed the average blood alcohol con tent (BAC) level for students treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center was more than triple the .08 percent legal limit for driving in Pennsylvania .25 percent, according to the assess ment. And officials say increases are likely in this year's report. “Unfortunately, for many of the students that I talk with, it’s a badge of honor," LaSalle said. “Students themselves need to really critically think about whether that's the way they want their institution and their diplo ma to be thought of.” See ALCOHOL. That's the way it is when you're a resident of District Heights, Md.. a suburb 10 miles outside Washington, D.C. "He means a whole lot to District Heights," Clifton Person, Navorro's friend since the age of 5. said. "I don't know if he really knows what he means." As part of the "100 Days Til Thon" celebration, the HUB- Robeson Center was trans formed into a Thon party. Walking through the HUB. 2009 Thon dancer Zimmerman joined a performance of last year's line dance. “It brought back good memo ries," Zimmerman (sophomore marketing) said. Students colored, danced and got excited for the 2010 Interfraternity Council,'Panhell- BOUNCING BACK you know you gotta grind," Navorro says. "And if you wanna be something or make something outta yourself, you gotta really get no matter how rough the road is get towards your dream or your goal." The goal for Navorro Bowman is the NFL. And he is so close to the NFL. He is so close to a col lege degree. So close to making it. And Navorro was so close to being nowhere near any of it. FTK to boost greek pride By Caitlin Sellers COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER When the Interfratemity Council and Panhellenic Councils’ Associate Vice President (AVP) positions were shifted from the Thon overall committee to the communica tions committee last spring, the greek community lost a promi nent source of Thon morale. The solution: Phi Tau Kappa. The IFC and PHC have creat ed an independent Interfraternity Council/Panhell enic Dance Marathon organiza tion with goals of boosting greek pride and increasing greek involvement in Thon.
