Tony's Big Easy and two other
downtown bars reopened Friday
and will remain open throughout
the week despite a judge's deci
sion to not renew the liquor
license a week ago.
The court reinstated operat
ing authority Friday to Sammark
Inc. owner of Tony's. Lulu's
Night Spot and Candy Bar and
Lounge, all of 129 12 Pugh
Street allowing alcohol to be
served, Sammark attorney
Robert Hoffman wrote in an e
mail.
Hoffman said it is unclear how
long Sammark will maintain the
operating authority

Hoffman said last week he had
already filed a brief asking for a
temporary liquor license while

The PLCB did not renew
Sammark's liquor license in July
2008. citing liquor law violations
and a fatal stabbing in one of the
bars.

Spanier:

With state appropriations still
in flux. Penn State President
Graham Spanier told the Penn
State Board of Trustees on
Friday that students could see an
increase in tuition for spring 2010
though only under the most
dire circumstances."
As the state legislature recon
enes today Spanier said he
hopes lawmakers will reach a
conclusion. If the bill they are dis
cussing passes as written, there
will be no increase in the spring,
released through a public records
request.
The State College Borough
Council is currently reviewing two
proposed amendments that would
redefine university recognition of
fraternities, establish development
standards and prohibit defunct on
campus fraternities from being
used as rooming houses.
University officials had previ
ously declined to comment on
Penn State administrators'
involvement in drafting the pro
posed amendments.

Rose Bowl for the Nittany Lions.
By day's end, however, conference title dreams
were just that, as No. 11 Penn State was no match

Football rankings fall
Penn State has seen its ranking take a fall since the start
of the season. After each of their losses, the Nittany Lions
have fallen 10 and eight spots, respectively.

chapter
IFC said Alpha Epsilon
Pi violated its original
terms of suspension.
Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity
was suspended by the
Interfraternity Council on
Sunday just two days after the
chapter was reinstated by its
national fraternity.
The chapter was suspended
on the grounds that it violated
the terms of its new member
education program suspension,
according to an IFC statement
released Sunday.
Alpha Epsilon Pi and Pi
Kappa Phi's new member edu
cation programs were suspend
ed Oct. 27 while the IFC investi
gates allegations of hazing at the
fraternities.
The Alpha Epsilon Pi national
fraternity responded to the IFC's
suspension of its chapter's new
member education program by
fully suspending the chapter.
The Pi Kappa Phi national fra
ternity followed the IFC's lead
and suspended its chapter's new
member education program.
