The FCC is examining about two
dozen complaints filed since April
when the agency toughened its
stance on indecent programming,
officials say. and several com
plaints will be ready for action
soon.
“Within the next month or two
we will see some dismissals or
enforcement actions." said one
FCC official, speaking on condition
of anonymity. Actions could range
from warnings to fines to license
suspensions and revocations.

for the opportunity to put on
material that violates the law." he
said. "But." he added, "if a stan
dard is so vague and subject to
interpretation, a commission down
the road could use it to give broad
casters a great deal of trouble."
In its ruling last April, the FTC
said it would no longer limit inde
cency to the "seven dirty words" in
comedian George Carlin s mono
logue of the same name, which
became the basis of a 1978 Supreme
Court ruling. The FCC said it would
apply the 25-word definition embo

‘We’re looking at more than just a
passing of the blues.” said Dr. Martin
B. Keller, director of outpatient re
search in psychiatry at Massachu
setts General Hospital. "In the fall I

this depression coming on. "
Keller served on a 12-member pan
el that studied a series of disorders

recommended establishing a clinical
outline for SADS.

disorder for several years but onlv

to a hormone called melatonin, se
creted by the pineal gland, a bean
sized part of the brain. The sleep
