ershey House starting an intramural dynasty
By BRIAN MCMAHON
Collegian Sports Writer
Only four games into the season,
the Hershey House intramural foot
ball team is starting to look like it will
be sliding down the third floor of
Packer Hall once again in late No
vember.
"We dump buckets of water in the
hall and just slide," Hershey I.M.
chairman John Scrizzi said following
his team's season-opening trouncing
of Potter House. "We do it every time
we win a championship."
`Within a couple of
weeks we had all
grown very close and
began to form what
would become the
strongest friendships
of our lives.'
-John Scrizzi
Hershey House intramural teams
have made that slide four times in the
last three years twice each for
football and softball and are cur
rently pursuing their third consec
utive I.M. football title. Since beating
Potter House 19-0 in this season's
opener, Hershey has dominated its
division, outscoring its opponents 93-
2. In the last two seasons, Hershey
has outscored its opponents 358-5, but
the players say they feel there's more
to winning than just scoring points.
They agree that , the key to their
success has been a long-term
friendship that has given them confi
dence in themselves as a team.
"I think we're like a really big
family," Scrizzi said. "We're pretty
tight compared to other houses."
"We're all pretty close," agrees
Mark Weslosky, Scrizzi's roommate
and teammate. "We do just about
everything together."
The Hershey House dynasty began

"He slumped during the playoffs,"
said Scrizzi. "His average was about
.900 before we got there."
Even so, said first baseman Art
Nelson, "Our offense was Mark Wes
losky."
When Weslosky isn't collecting
bases, he's gaining yards. As starting
quarterback, Weslosky, who's nick-
named "Marino" after his idle, Dan
Marino, has led a pass-oriented of
fense to 23 consecutive victories.
"We don't have a distinct set of
plays," Scrizzi noted. "Most of the
time the receivers just go into the
huddle and tell him (Weslosky) that
they're going long and will be open."
Weslosky has demonstrated his
ability to throw to the deep man.
Against Potter, he threw a 30-yard
touchdown to Nelson and had another
called back because of a penalty.
Both passes were thrown through
heavy coverage while Weslosky
scrambled to avoid the defensive
rush.
"I've done a lot of scrambling this
year," Weslosky said, "because our
offensive line is basically all new.
They were more experienced last
year."
As for the defense, however, its
record speaks for itself. This season,
Hershey's defense has yet to surren
der a point to its opponents, and over
the past two seasons, it has yielded
only three points. The Hershey play
ers have not given up a touchdown
since their first championship sea
son. Of the 19 points scored against
Potter, 12 came on Weslosky inter
ceptions that he ran in for touch
downs.
"Even when we aren't scoring,"
Nelson said, "we don't lose because
our defense doesn't give up any
points. We've got a lot of smart kids
out there."
Confidence. Unity. A scrambling
quarterback who's a threat to throw
deep and with deadly accuracy, and a
stingy, experienced defense. Are
these the necessary ingredients for a
third consecutive championship?
"I
hope that we win it." Scrizzi
said. "We're trying to at least."
Nelson displayed more confidence,
however, saying, "I can't see us
losing. We're gonna' take every game
seriously and not let up against any
body. In fact, there's probably going •
to be a lot of real lopsided games, but
there's no way we're going to lose."
Hoping that Nelson turns out to be a
prophet, Hershey House players and
supporters are getting the buckets
ready over at Packer Hall.

Tennis stars subject to drug tests
By ANDREW WARSHAW
AP Sports Writer
LONDON The ruling body of
men's tournament tennis yester
day announced random drug test
ing at the world's biggest
tournaments and said players re
fusing to take the test would face
automatic suspension.
But in a carefully worded
statement, the Men's International
Professional Tennis Council
(MIPTC) said players found guilty
of taking the banned substances
specifically heroin, cocaine and
amphetamines would be allowed
to have treatment, instead of being
punished.
The statement, released at the
end of a routine MIPTC meeting in
London, said players would be
asked to undergo mandatory dope
tests at two of the five most popular
events of the calendar year, begin
ning in 1986.
Those who refused would be sus-
