Thompson sues
NEW YORK (AP) - David
Thompson of the Seattle Super So
nics filed a $2O million lawsuit yes

Studio 54 discotheque, charging its
employees may have ended his
career by assaulting him.
The 6-foot-4-inch guard charged
that as a result of a beating he
suffered inside the Manhattan
club last March 10, his “career as
a professional basketball player
has been placed in severe jeopar
dy and may not be continued.” He
said the beating caused him to
miss most of the 1983-84 NBA
season.
No comment could be obtained
from Cobham Enterprises, Inc.,

54 or its publicity agent.

5 a.m. when he was attacked by an
employee, identified in the suit as
defendant Martin Santiago of
Staten Island. .....
Thompson, who lives in Engle
wood, Colo., fell down the stairs,
where other employees grabbed
him, dragged him, and threw him
onto the street, the suit charges.
Thompson said he suffered a per
manent knee injury, as well as
injuries to his head and teeth.
Thompson, 30, was an All-Amer
ican player at North Carolina
State, leading the team to the
National Collegiate Athletic Asso
ciation title in 1974. He was named
an NBA all-star four times and
once scored 73 points in a game.
Last season, he played 19 of the
team’s 82 games, averaging 12.6
points per game,
