4—The Daily Collegian Thursday, June 23,1983 PSU has summer camp for computer whiz kids By GRACE LoMONACO Collegian Staff Writer With the computer age upon us, elementary and high school students can get a head start for the future by attending the computer camps of fered by the University this summer. Melinda Harr, conference coordi nator at the Keller Conference Cen ter, said the camps, co-sponsored by Continuing Education and the College of Education, are being offered to students between the ages of 12 and 17 to learn introductory computer skills. Mike Patrilak, Continuing Educa tion and State College High School teacher, said the students learn to type and run programs and complete exercises in a text during the six-day camp. During the first day of cqmp, stu dents are instructed in the program ming language LOGO, which was developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Patrilak said. Although most of the students have no background in microcomputer op eration, they will cover 27 lessons including low resolution graphics. Harr said the classes are held from 8-30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and for half a day on Fridays. Sunday evening, the students are taken on a tour of the campus and the computer facilities, she said. The students also go to Stone Valley Rec reation Area for a picnic Monday evening, she said. Under a proposal sponsored by Sen. Thomas F. Eagleton, D-Mo., the la bels would read:, “Warning! Ciga rette smoking causes CANCER, EMPHYSEMA, HEART DISEASE; may complicate PREGNANCY, and is ADDICTIVE.” Cigarette packages and advertising now must carry: ‘Warning: The Sur geon General Has Determined That Cigarette Smoking is Dangerous to Your Health.” The committee adopted Eagleton’s measure by a vote of 15-1, with Sen.
