Golfers finish 1 sth at OSU invite

For the second week in a row the men's golf
team finished way back in the pack. But consid
ering the cold and windy conditions, its coach is
satisfied.
The Nittany Lions, who finished 15th out of 17
teams two weekends ago at the Marshall Invita
tional, duplicated a 15th place performance this
past weekend at the Ohio State Invitational.
"I think we could have played better," Lion
Head Coach Mary Kennedy said. "But consid
ering the conditions, I thought they fared pretty
good."
The host Buckeyes played better than just good
as they walked away with their own tourney,
Softball team is vengeful
Anyone looking for a safe bet might went to
wager on the softball team in its game against Lock
Haven State College at 3 this afternoon at Lady
Lion Field.
After four straight wins this past weekend, Penn
State will carry a revenge factor into today's game.
The Lady Lions (15-7) have been on both sides of
the fence in the last three years they have played
Lock Haven.

"The weather was a big problem, but it didn't
seem to bother Ohio State," Kennedy said.
"They're up there with the best."
Kennedy said the wind chill factor in Colum
bus, Ohio was 14 degrees, and "there was snow
everywhere but right in Columbus."
The Buckeyes' Chris Perry may have been
cold, but he didn't play like it, as he burned up the
7,200, par 72 course with a three-round total of 215
(71-71-73), 11 strokes ahead of his nearest com
petitor.
"He (Perry) played just absolutely spectac
ular," Kennedy said. "With the shots he made
this weekend, he should be on the (PGA) Tour."
The Lion nearest to getting his name on the
Penn State took one of the two in 1980, captured
both games in 1982 and split last year, handing Lock
Haven a 2-1 loss in the first match and losing 3-1 in
game two.
Lady Lion Head Coach Sue Rankin said she is not
sure what to expect from Lock Haven, but she
knows the Lady Lions are out to revenge last year's
loss.

"For the conditions and not being a long hitter,
Brian played real well," , Kennedy said. "The
course plays long as it is and with the wind, it just
made things that much tougher."

tions for the second straight day, the
women's golf team led by Jane
Abood shot a combined 319 second
round total yesterday to take second
place in the Boilermaker Spring Clas
sic at Purdue University in West
Lafayette, Ind.
The Lady Lion& second round ef
fort, combined with their first day
total of 316, gave them an overall
total of 635, which was 26 shots behind
tournament winner Ohio State.
Abood; who was in first place indi
vidually at the end of the first day of
play with a 73, fired a second round
72, but still had to settle for second
place overall when she lost a sudden
death playoff to Ohio State's Cathy
Kratzert.
