Clarke, Flyers down Wings
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Bobby
Clarke scored two goals and assisted
on another, including his I,looth ca
reer NHL, to lead the Philadelphia
Flyers to a 7-2 victory over the De
troit Red Wings last night,
The win pushed the Flyers to within
one point of the idle New York Island
ers in the NHL's Patrick Division,
while Detroit fell 25 points behind the
Norris Division-leading Chicago
Black Hawks.
Detroit, which has been unable to
defeat the Flyers on their home ice in
a 23-game span dating back to Nov.
13, 1971, opened the scoring early
when Dwight Foster intercepted a
Mark Howe pass and converted it into
his 4th goal of the season just nine
seconds into the game.
Clarke evened things with the first
of three Flyer power play goals at the
4:43 mark of the period. The goal was
Clarke's . I,looth career NHL point,
ranking him third among active play
ers with 327 goals.
The Flyers broke the game open in
the second period with goals by Paul
Holmgren, Darryl Sittler and Brian
Propp. Holmgren scored his Bth goal
of the season on a pass from Howe,
while Sittler got his 20th and Bth goal
in 8 games with Bobby Francis serv
ing a bench minor for Detroit.
