The Penn State Diner, “a State College tradition,” closed Friday evening permanently. The diner’s owner, William D.
Henning, has filed for bankruptcy with the Federal Bankruptcy Court in Harrisburg. For University students and area
residents, that late-night grilled sticky stop-over is now a delicacy of the past.

owner’s debts amount to $319,181.
Bankruptcy court is now in charge of
all the proceedings. The diner will be
turned over to creditors and a trustee

“The block is at a loss without the
diner open,” said Chris Papas, co-owner
of the Corner Restaurant, 100 W. College
Ave.
“There has been a noted increase in
morning coffee drinkers and breakfast
people” because of the closing, Papas
said.
The Corner Restaurant has also in
creased its lunch hours to serve more
customers, Papas said.
Many of the diner’s now out-of-work
employees have approached the Corner
Restaurant for jobs, Papas said. He will
try to hire some of them for the fall, he
said.
An employee of The Candy Cane, 128
W. College Ave., said the closing could
possibly hurt their business because
they advertised along with the diner.
