first given in 1935. The first Cadet won in
1945, the year Army also won the
National Championship. Another Cadet
took home the award the following year
with the final West Point recipient
taking the trophy in 1958. Who were the
three?
Yesterday’s answer: Hall of Fame
linebacker Dick Butkus of the Chicago
Bears holds the National Football
League record for fumbles recovered in
a career with 25.

“I expect to do a lot of business with
the magic Johnson makes,” says the
Lakers’ colorful new owner, Jerry Buss.
“Sports is a business of stars and this
youngster has star quality.”
The 6-8 Johnson is famous for his in
fectious enthusiasm, a quality that
critics say has been lacking in pro
basketball in recent years. His brilliant
passing and floor leadership helped
Michigan State to the collegiate
championship last winter and he was the
first player selected in the NBA draft,
the Lakers using a choice they had ob
tained several years earlier from the'
Jazz.
Flyers drop Islanders
Get first victory
over New York
in two seasons
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Goals by
Paul Holmgren, Brian Propp and A 1 Hill
within 81 seconds of the second period
led the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-2
victory over the New York Islanders last
night in the National Hockey League
opener for both teams.
The victory was Philadelphia’s first
over New York in two seasons. The
Islanders, the leading regular season
team in the NHL last year, had a 4-0:2
record against Philadelphia in 1978-79.
Leading 1-0 on a first period power
play goal by Rick MacLeish,
Philadelphia broke the game open at the
start of the second period.
Holmgren, who was the team’s leading
scorer through the exhibition season,
rebounded Norm Barne’s shot past
Islanders’ goalie Billy Smith only 1:34
into the period for a 2-0 Philadelphia
advantage.
Brian Propp, the Flyers’ top junior
draft pick, scored his first NHL goal 1:04
later. Feeding Bobby Clarke at the end
of a 2-on-l break, Propp skated to the
net, where he picked up the puck after
Clarke’s shot hit a New York defender.
The rookie shoveled the puck under
Smith for a 3-0 lead.
Only 37 seconds later, at 3:15 of the
period, A 1 Hill came from behind the net
to backhand a shot over a fallen'Smith
for a 4-0 Flyers margin.
Mike Bossy, the league’s leading goal
scorer last season with 69, scored his
first of the season at 5:32 of the final
period, ending Phil Myre’s shutout bid in
his debut in the Flyer goal.
At 15:14 of the period Bryan Trottier,
the league’s leading point scorer last
year, scored the Islander’s second goal.
Philadelphia’s final goal was by-Tom
Gorence with 3:26 to play in the game.
. The start of the game was delayed 25
minutes while the Flyers honored their
former goaltender, Bernie Parent, who
was forced into retirement by an eye
injury last February. His jersey No. 1
was retired, the first time any NHL
■team has so honored a goaltender. -

Both townspeople and University students have been
going to the new store.
“I just stopped in to see what it was like. It’s a pretty
good store with a good selection of small electrical
appliances,” State College resident Bill Aull said.
Another student who did not give his name said, “25
percent off market price for a watch sure isn’t bad, but
I’m going to shop around a little more.”
The stereo and camera equipment is scheduled to
arrive this week, Rush said. “Once the stereos get here,
we’ll double our volume of customers,” he said.
