WASHINGTON (UPI) Republican

yesterday warned the press that if it
does not bring up Chappaquiddick in its

Speaking at the Washington Press

kicked out of college for cheating.”
Connally said that if the news media is

Can you spare a dime?
BERWYN, 111. (UPI) A dime, any
old dime, will get you a gallon of gasoline
at Harold’s Super Shell these days, and
the owners think they’ll break even on
the offer.
But a new dime won’t do.
Owner Harold Granby,-60, and his son,
Howard, 22, who runs the business in this
Chicago suburb, say that if you want 10-\
cent gas, you have to pay for it in silver
dimes, quarters, halves or dollars
minted before 1965. They won’t take any
of the “funny money” issued by the U.S.
Treasury after then.
The Granbys started their offer three
months ago, more to improve their coin
collections than their profits.
“Most of the coins we get are 1964
dimes,” Howard said. “They’re worth
about $l.lO each, collector’s value. As of
now, regular gasoline is selling for $l.lO *
a gallon, super is selling for a little over
$l.lB a gallon, and unleaded is selling for
a bit more than $1.14 a gallon.”
Even though those prices may mean a
short-term loss, the Granbys figure
silver coins have been steadily ap
preciating. And every once in a while
they make a lucky find.
A few weeks ago, somebody bought .

“We’re just locking them up and

“We’ll continue to make the offer to our
customers until we get the coins we
really want.”
