WASHINGTON (UPI) The Food and Drug Administration yesterday announced the recall of more than 2.7 million bottles of Contac Nasal Mist and Sine-Off Once-A-Day Sinus Spray which it said may be contaminated with bacteria. The recall is being conducted by a division of the manufacturer, Smith Kline and French Laboratories, Philadelphia. The products were distributed nationwide. Involved are 604,224 bottles of the Contac product in half-ounce units, and an estimated 2,14 million of the Sine-Off product, in both one-half and o ounce packages. The FDA said the prodi were distributed nationwide and i Puerto Rico. While no injuries have been rented, it said persons with chronic prems who use the products repeated!'could be ex posed to-a hazard. The agency also annnced the recall of three acne preparaps which it said contain a chemical deemed unsafe for use on the skin. The chemical, methoxyethanol, is primarily used as a solvent in varnishes, enamels and woodstains. The FDA said the chemical could cause nerve and blood disorders if ab sorbed through the skin with repeated applications. The FDA requested the recall which is continuing. No injuries have been reported. The products are: Dermastat Lotion,, manufactured by Derma Laboratories Inc., Garland, Texas, and distributed in Michigan, The Daily Collegian Thursday, May 10, 1970--- Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, Florida, Indiana, Washington, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Hawaii, California, Canada and the Phillippines. About 600 of the 16- ounce bottles and 10 one-gallon bottles are involved. AHC No. 3 BP Gel Medication, AHC Benzoyl Peroxide Gel 10 percent plain; AHC Sulfur Resorconol, topical acne cream in one, three and eight-ounce containers; and Benzoyl Peroxide 20 percent HP with Sulfur 10 percent. More than 23,000 units are involved, distributed nationwide as well as in Mexico and Puerto Rico.
