The economic picture looks "pretty bright right

Supplemental requests will be funded
by "soft" funds ASA receives over the
summer from the University. Last year
ASA received $53,000 in soft funds, and
$119,048 in "hard" (or annual) funds.
Bill Tracy, chairman-elect of the
committee, said the ceiling figures give
organizations "a little more respon
sibility as far as money management
goes."
Tracy said . the committee will begin
deciding allocations today and
organizations will be notified of their
allocations by the third week in June.
Klein said the committee will assess
the system next year to see how well it
has worked, but said he does not know if
ceiling figures will be changed.
Bell said most groups requested their
ceiling figure. The largest ceiling is
$20,000, for Colloquy. Other major
groups funded by ASA include:

All residence hall associations have a
ceiling of $l,OOO. Other groups with a
$l,OOO ceiling are: Homophiles of Penn
State, University Choirs, Penn State
Symphony Orchestra and the Penn State
Glee Club. The Veterans' Organization
has a $6OO ceiling.
Under the new budget system, student
councils have a ceiling of $5OO. Requests
were made by student councils for the
" Mark ,Van Doren, Nation
barring a national problem."
But Short seems to sum up the prospects for the
future of the Center Region best when he says the area
must bring in more people before it can accommodate
any more business or industrial expansion.
"We can't base our growth on just retail hot dog
stands," he says, "because they have to have someone
in the area to buy all the hot dogs."
Colleges of Engineering, Human
Development, Liberal Arts, Science,
Agriculture, Business Administration
and Earth and Mineral Sciences. The
International Council also has a $5OO
ceiling.
Special interest groups have a ceiling
of $2OO, Bell said. Groups in this category
who requested funding were Friends of
India, Alpha Phi Omega and Gamma
Sigma Sigma service organizations,
Model Railroad Club, Astronomy Club,
Yachad, Chinese Student Association,
Circle K, Folklore Soceity and Eco-
Action.
New groups with a ceiling of $lOO were
the Student Health Resource
Organization, the Vocational Industrial
Club and the Student Foundation for the
Performing Arts. The Ukrainian Club
has a ceiling of $5O.

The VOLUNTARY CANCELLATION deadline has been extended to Friday, June 1,
1979. Undergraduates cancelling their contracts by written notice to the Assign
ment Office for Campus Residences, 101 Shields Building, University Park, PA
16802, will receive a full refund of their $45.00 Advance Payments.
Students considering off-campus housing for Fall Term 1979 are advised to make
their decision prior to the new deadline.
The estimated number of students scheduled to be assigned to temporary ac
commodations in Residence• Halls Fall Term 1979, will not permit CONTRACT
EXCHANGES to be made prior to Winter Term 1979. -,
Therefore, students holding Fall Term contracts and wanting to avoid financial
responsibility for the 1979-80 academic year, should cancel their contracts now.
Full refunds of the $45.00 Advance Payments are not authorized beyond the
voluntary cancellation deadline (June 1, 1979).
