Ritenour nurse named
Helena Lumpkin, a registered nurse at
Ritenour Health Center, was recently
named the American Cancer Society's
1979 Miss Hope for Centre County.
She will participate in the Penn
sylvania Miss Hope pageant March 28
and 29 in Carlisle. Lumpkin is a 1974
graduate of the University..
Jesse F. Core, an adjunct professor of
mining engineering at the University,
Was recently made an honorary Member
of the American Institute of Mining,
Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers.
Core was one of four men to be
honored by the Institute this year. There
are only 50 living AIME members at any
time.
Billy Ray Baumgardt, professor of
animal nutrition, has been named
associate dean for research and
associate director of the Agricultural
Experiment at the University.
He succeeds Walter I. Thomas, who
retired in February. Baumgardt was
formerly the head of the Department of
Dairy and Animal Science in the College
of Agriculture.
Edward V. Ellis, associate dean for
continuing education in the College of
Human Development, has been elected
to a three-year term on the Commission
of Higher Eductaion of the Middle States
Association of Colleges and Schools.
The Commission provides ac
creditation, evaluation and consultation
services to member and' candidate in
stitutions.
William E. Biles has been appointed
professor and head of the Department of
Industrial and Management Systems
Engineering.
Robert Stefanko, professor of mining
engineering, was installed last month as
the 1979 president of the Society of
Mining Engineers.
The Society is a 24,500-member
national organization of engineers
engaged in the mineral industries.
Sam Hargrave has been appointed as
the new executive director of On Drugs
Inc., located on S. Allen Street.
Hargrave, who has worked at On
Drugs Inc. since 1975, succeeds Norman
R. Brown, who resigned to take another
job.
Alan Ellis, a State College attorney,
was elected last month to his third term
as president of the Central Pennsylvania
Chapter of the American Civil Liberties
Union.
Ellis, a 1964 University graduate, has
worked as an ACLU lawyer since 1967.

• Nancy Swank, assistant
housekeeping supervisor, reported that
an unknown person or persons had
damaged the ceiling tile on the seventh
floor of Packer ,Hall Wednesday,
University Police Services said.

Anyone with a bachelor's degree in different engineering fields,
production/manufacturing, quality-control, materials management
or procurement wishing to teach full-time for one or two years in
Japan should write to:
The position involves teaching Japanese businessmen and
engineers the basic vocabulary in various fields.
No Japanese-language is required for classroom instruction.
Teaching experience is not required. An orientation is given in
Tokyo.
Information on salary, transportation and housing can be ob

resume and a letter indicating an interest in the position.
Personal interviews will be held in your area between the middle
to end of April.
Selected applicants would be expected to arrive in Tokyo from
