Underworld boss gives up after mistaken release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn, (UPI) Carmine Galante,
the reputed New York underworld boss released from
prison last week in an apparent misunderstanding,
surrendered to authorities yesterday.
Galante appeared in U.S. District Court and was
jailed pending his transfer today to the Metropolitan

Blumenthal said Judge T. F. Gilroy Daly refused to
set bail for Galante, but ordered a new parole
revocation hearing be held for him before March 22.
Galante's 1974 parole on a narcotics conviction was
revoked in October 1977 when he was found to have
associated with known criminals.
