FOXBORO : Mass. (AP) A 58-yard
touchdown pass from Steve Grogan to
Stanley Morgan and three key fumble
recoveries by linebacker Steve Nelson

14 National Football League victory over
the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.
The picture-perfect touchdown pass
early in the third quarter gave the
Patriots a 24-7 lead and •New England
held on, improving its record to 4-2.
Nelson personally halted Eagles'
drives, recovering bobbles in the first,
third and fourth quarters.
The Patriots took a 17-0 lead in the
second quarter but let Philadelphia, now
3-3, back in the game late in the first half
on a 28-yard touchdown pass'from Ron
Jaworski to Harold Carmichael.
Fullback Don Calhoun's 4-yard
touchdown run and newcomer David
Bosey's first NFL field goal, a 42-yarder,
put New England ahead 10-0 in the first
quarter.
Sam Cunningham made it 17-0 with
5:19 left in the half with a one-yard
scoring bolt after Horace Ivory danced
21 yards to the goal line.
New England had gotten caught in an
all-out defensive blitz with 1:12 left in the
first half and Carmichael snared the
touchdown pass.
Morgan ou traced the Eagles'
secondary alter 2:02 of the third quarter
to give the Patriots a temporary 17-point
lead, but the Eagles struck back on their
next series, as John Sciarra normally
a free safety scampered in from the 1-
