OAKLAND -7 1 / 2 over IloOston Oilers have been on the comeback trail of late and Earl Campbell should return to lineup this week. Will the real Kenny Stabler please stand up, or can he with those bad knees? Cincinnati plus 9 1 / 2 over MIAMI The Bengals are way overdue and Ken Anderson should add some spark to the anemic Cincinnati offense. Miami has been an up and down team this year. Penn State -7 over KENTUCKY The Lions look like they are finally on the right track. Kentucky is cer tainly not the team it was last year when it inflicted Penn State's only loss of tht year. Look for another wide victory margin. , A.C. Al lowa Slate vs. Nebraska This Big 8 matchup features two of the nation's premier runningbacks. I.M. Hip of Nebraska vs. Dexter Green from lowa State. I.M. Hip had impressive stats last week but they were against a lowly Indiana team. On the other hand lowa State looks very impressive this year. It shut out cross state rival lowa and has yet to lose a game so far this year. A.C. Al's college pick of the week I'm wagering $55 to win $5O on lowa State plus 5 points. 4 14, 1979 .olorado, lational 11 from y of the manean Fieldwomen settle for tie By DENISE BACIIMAN Daily Collegian Sports Writer All good things must come to an end. Just ask the Lady Lion field hockey team. After beginning the season with three successive shutouts, the stickgali suf fered their first non-victory. It wasn't a defeat, but rather a 1-1 tie against Delaware. "I was pleased with our play but disappointed by the score," Coach Jill Rattray said. "We outplayed them the whole game." And the statistics prove it. The Lady Lions had a 24-13 advantage on shots on goal and 12 corners compared to Delaware's two. Charlene Morett accumulated nine shots on goal and came within inches of scoring the go-ahead goal. Candy Finn Lady harriers must go By STEVE NAOWITH Daily Collegian Sports Writer A challenge awaits the Lady Lion cross country team tomorrow when Ohio State and Eastern Michigan come to town for a triangular meet. The team easily won its first two meets of the season without national champ Kathy Mills, but Saturday it must also run without the . services of promoted No.l runner, Liz Berry. - Berry's absence will not be due to injury, however, as is the case with Mills. She will be taking part in a six mile race in Boston consisting of national competition. Meanwhile, the rest of the team isn't taking the losses of the two runners lightly they're getting psyched. "They're up for this race," Coach Chris Brooks said, "They know the top .. , N. . r3P IL IL, IMPORTS had five shots on goal and she, too, ran into some tough luck. One of her shots ricocheted off the post. Penn State jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Jill Van Bodegom- Smith 23 minutes into the first half. In the second half it didn't take Delaware long to rally back. Bette Newby, assisted by Carol Miller, scored Delaware's lone goal at the seven minute mark. The Lady Lions' two close shots on goal weren't the only streak of bad luck that they encountered. Delaware's goalie, Barb Harrington, sat on Michelle Fielder's stick and broke it. At first the official signaled a penalty shot, which would've been the correct decision, but changed the call to a penalty corner. Fielder eventually was two won't be there, so they really want to do well." Although the Lady Lions swept the meet against Ohio State last year, the addition of some new Buckeye runners could affect tomorrow's outcome. "Ohio State picked up a couple of good kids," Brooks said, such as freshmen Kelly O'Toole and Beth Sheridan. However, their weakness lies in the depth of the team, which is why Penn State has a good chance of winning. "We have three strong people up front and we have much stronger people in the back," she said. Depth will also play a big part in the meet because it is triangular. That means runners from .two teams can displace a team's runners, equalizing the effect of a team haVing one fast LOOKING FOR A CHALLENGING CAREER IN ENGINEERING, WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU... 7 ',T,i'......•-•:. : ..:' -. :.:',..-.:.. - ',;:....:.,•.!.: : :).:.5..-A-:_,:!.:-', 9 ''' . "It was a very physical game," Rattray said. "Two Delaware players were warned by the officials." Penn State's record now stands at 3-0-1 while Delaware's dropped to 4-0-1. In junior varsity competition, Cindy Karpinski and Mary Sue Patterson led the Lady Lions to a 2-1 victory. Tomorrow the stickgals will again be put to the test when they host Rutgers, beginning at 2 p.m. This is only the second meeting between the two teams. In their first encounter last year, the Lady Lions lost, 1-0. Rutgers goes into, the game posting a 4-1 record (excluding yesterday's game) which includes a 1-0 victory over second ranked Ursinus. In its only loss, Rutgers was shut out by Maryland, 2-0. minus two runner and a gap between its next couple runners. As Brooks said, "It makes it more exciting." This will be Eastern Michigan's first time here and, although the team is no powerhouse, they have runner Sue Parks who placed 19th at the nationals. In addition to the top runners being absent, the coach will also be missing from the meet. Assistant Coach Carolyn Court will take over since Brooks will be at the Olympic training camp in Colorado Springs to discuss work which was done during the summer. Those who will be appearing for Penn State include: Peggy Cleary, Patty Murnane, Mary Rawe, Penny Fales, Donna Gardner and Sandy Alexander.
