Features house built in 1880 s University offering farm for sale The University has announced it will offer for public sale on Wednesday, Sept. 13 a 192-acre farm in Spruce Creek Town ship in Huntingdon County. . The property, known as Carper Farm, is located 20 miles south of State College, along Route 45, one mile north of Spruce Creek. . - ' The University purchased the property in 1964, said Richard H. Baker, assistant treasurer and director of financial management for the University. Under agreement, the present tenants, Mr. and Mrs. George . W. Barr, have remained to operate the farm and act as guardians of the trout stream just south of the property. The stream and surrounding 25 acres will be retained by the University. They are particularly valuable because the trout :, are native to the stream and the subject of trout propogation studies by the University, Baker said. Baker said the farm is being sold because "there is simply • no need for it." He could not estimate what the University would receive for it, only that it would be sold to the highest bidder. , An open inspection of the property will be held on Sunday Interest-funding groups top labor WASHINGTON (UPI) Recently formed conservative groups have been far more successful raising funds for this year's congressional campaigns than traditional business and labor groups, the Federal Election Com mission reported Thursday. The report showed that four of the five most successful political action com mittees in the 18-month period ending last June were identified with con servative issues. . The other one was the American • Medical Society's political arm, a group with no.political affiliation but which has a long history of supporting conservative p i causes and candidates. The AFL-CIO, traditionally one of the , leading spenders in political races, . ranked no better than eighth in the list of fund-raisers. "The FEC figures released today confirm the alarming. trend in the "growth of special interest group political ', money in general, and corporate related political money in particular," said Fred Wertheimer, senior vice president of Common Cause, a watchdog group. "We are rapidly heading toward a new political system of 'PAC democracy' with Congress representing the political action committees of America instead of its citizens,'''he said.
