Big bucks for Allen
in Redskin contract
WASHINGTON (AP)
George Allen will be coach
and general manager of the
Washington Redskins for at
least four more seasons under
a contract signed yesterday
a pact described by his boss
as one of the best in the
National Football League. ,
Redskins President
Edward Bennett Williams
said Allen had agreed to
terms "at a very sub
stantially increased salary."
Williams also described as
inaccurate a published report
placing Allen's new salary at
COMPLIMENTS OF THE PENN STATE BOOKSTORE
approximately' $250,000 a
year, or double his current
pay.
The , team president
declined to disclose the terms,
but said The Washington Post
reports had several inac
curacies.
"I think George Allen
deserves one of the best
'contracts in coaching and I
think he has that," Williams
told a news conference. "I
don't know if it is the best, the
second best or the third best,
but'it is among the best and he
deserves that."

4-5, ripped a shot just inside the third
base line to the left-field corner.
Cruz went all the way to third on the
play when shortstop Larry Bowa's
relay to the plate went past catcher
Bob Boone for a throwing error. Cruz

Cardinal lead.
The run proved crucial when the
Phillies came back in the last of the
11th on an RBI double, by Greg
Luzinski.
