Store Hours: 10-10 Monday-Saturday A dalmation looks intently for fire atop this fire engine Parade attracts huge audience By LYNNE MARGOLIS Collegian Staff Writer The vintage fire trucks were shined, the high school bands tuned up and the clowns donned their costumes once again for the Alpha Fire Company's annual Independence Day parade, held last Saturday evening. Parade lovers of every age turned out for the Celebration, marking the United States' 201st year of in dependence. Downtown traffic was re-routed so the parade could travel smoothly around the University campu's and The State College area. It wound from parking lot 80 down to East College Avenue, then to South Allen Street. The parade proceeded along South Allen to the intersection at South Atherton Street, . and up South Atherton to Waupelani Drive. The motorcades, floats and march ers made their way to the judges' stands on Waupelani Drive, streaming past scores of people. For many of THE ANTI-INFLATION DEPARTMENT STORE those who lined the sidewalks in an ticipation, the parade was icing on the cake. It topped the week-long carnival held by the Alpha volunteer firemen. Winners were chosen and prizes were awarded for both the carnival and parade events. Bud Cole, of Bellefonte, won a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba as first prize in the carnival drawing. The second prize, a color television, was awarded to Frank Gryctko, also of Bellefonte. Beth Lang, of State College, won the third prize, a smoke detector. Parade judges selected first and second_ place winners for each category. Their were: Band Competition first, Penn's Valley High School; second, State College High School. Drill Team first, Williamsport High School Colorettes; second, Marine Corps League, Susquehanna Detachment.
