plane crash
in Reading
supplied by the Allentown-
Bethlehem-Easton airport,
located about 40 miles north
east of the Reading field.
"We've been trying to get it
(radar) for the last five
years," Shaffer said. "I think
federal officials were con
ducting surveys to see how
effective it is with Allentown
radar working at Reading.
"This cannot , work for the
simple reason that we have
hills northeast of the airport,"
he said. "Now they're going to
take a look at it, but it's a
shame something like this has
to happen."
Authorities said two ex
plosions occurred in the
Saturday crash, one at impact
and another when the Nord hit
the ground. The wreckage of
the Cessna was spread out
over a wide area about a mile
long.
"The whole building shook,
and I mean it really shook,"
said Barbara Eddinger, who
was sitting in the living room
of her nearby home when the
crash occurred.
"The couch actually shook
The plane just flew apart."

530 students new
voter registrants
The Undergraduate Student Government voter
registration drive registered about 530 new voters this
spring, according to Department of Political Affairs
spokesman Frank Andrews . (Bth-quantitative business
analysis).
Of these, 450 were registered in the Intraniural Building
during spring registration. The other 80 were registered
at a table in the HUB. .
,
Andrews said that this figure, small in comparison to
the total of 10,000 registered last fall, will have a small
effect on the primary election, but could play, an im
portant role next fall.
He said he was not sure of the total number of student
voters because many have moved and their names will be
purged froth the registration lists before the election.

Billy

OAKLAND, Calif. (UPI)
A black politician said
yesterday he resents a racial
remark made to him by Billy
Carter, but the President's
brother refused to apologize.
"Certainly I resent it,"
Carter Gilmore, 51, long
active in the NAACP, said of
the remark that was made at
a cocktail party here.
"I ain't apologizing because
I got nothing to apologize
for," said Carter, the Georgia
gas station operator who has
gained fame for his outspoken
remarks and beer drinking.
He said he was only "kid

The remark was made at a

night before Carter threw out

Minnesota.
Gilmore, who is running for
the Oakland City Council,

Ballroom to field questions:
"Billy, the fact that we're
both named Carter, can you
explain thilt we're not related
to each other?"
"Well," replied Carter, "I

Carter and the crowd
