But most of the shooting involved repeated takes of a hockey game and of the fans cheering. Hayden said that this got to be as boring as .“writing class papers!” Even Paul Newman appeared bored, the two said. Boredom was not a problem for the extras on the “Jaws” set, we think. In 1948, John Wayne played still another of his strong-yet-gentle-men-in danger roles, in a movie called “The Wake of the Red Witch.” The film from the novel of the same name, was set in the Dutch East Indies and had Wayne overcoming the usual insuperable obstacles. Wayne was the captain of a ship called the Red Witch and worked for an exporting company called Batjak Limited.
