Lady swimmers aim for undefeated Raiderettes By JOYCE TOMANA Collegian,Sports Writer When two undefeated teams meet this late in the season, neither is going to give up their record without a spirited, all-out battle: That will be the atmosphere this afternoon when the Lady Lion swimmers travel to Ship pensbiirg State College. "Shippensburg has always been a very emotional team," Penn State coach Ellen Perry said. "They are always up for a Penn State contest." Penn State boasts a 5-0 record while Shippensburg is 7-0. The Raiderettes are also determined to keep alive an 11 game winning streak that began last season. The most recent meeting between the two squads was in 1975 in which Shippensburg came out ahead 84-47. The home advantage will be the equalizer this afternoon, according to coach Perry. The former President, making his second appearance of the year in a pro-am event, played as a partner of defending champion Johnny Miller before a massive, enthusiastic gallery that lined every fairway and green four or five deep. The crowd was so large any errant shot was almost certain to hit someone. Ford got two, one with his second shot on the 10th hole and one with his drive on 16. Neither spectator was injured. Massengale, meanwhile, a runner-up to Miller a year ago, played an almost errorless round and assumed a three-stroke lead in this unique, 90-hole, five-day event. spread over four desert courses. He hit every green, missed only one fairway, didn't make a bogey and holed putts totaling more than 50 yards in length. After a two-month absence due to a foot injury, Erichsen suited up and scored 12 points in nearly 20 minutes of action. But his impressive return to the squad was offset by Bruce Herald and Walt Monford, whO scored 24 points and 21 points respectively to lead Temple to an 86-66 win over the Lions last night at the Palestra in Philadelphia. The shooting of Herald and Monford and a tough 2-3 zone defense which prevented Penn State from getting inside helped Temple break open a close game midway through the second half and the Owls cruised to their twelfth victory in twenty games. Penn State's loss dropped its record to 7-14. The Lions fought back from an 11-point deficit and scored eight straight points near the end of the half to trail, 31-28, at halftime. Penn State continued to narrow the margin in the opening mements of the second half.
