A special federal grand jury yesterday resumed its investigation Of alleged political corruption in Maryland. The panel met amid unprecedented security restrictions enforced by more than two dozen federal marshals. Because Vice President Spiro T. But in Washington, a spokesman for the Justice Department said it was not true. Collegian FOR SALE GUITARS AND AMPS. Gibson Epiphone, National, Sunn, Ampeo USED but Top Condition! Save sss on SF authors discuss trends Colloquy panel ponders futures By BILL SPANGLER Collegian Staff Writer The art of building futures and some of the futures mankind faces were discussed by four science fiction writers last night as the second event in, this week's Colloquy program. Gordon - Dickson,.Philip Klass, Jerry Pournelle and Roger Zelazny spoke on how science fiction writers extrapolate on historical trends to, in Klass' words, "grapple with the world that is being born." Every generation feels as if they're in an era of change, Dickson explained, but, in fact, there are very few explosive changes, and there are definite trends which can be seen. Zelazny developed the idea by talking about two myths that run through science fiction: what he described as the Frankensteiri-Pygmallion concept. these twotension between these two ideas-the creation of man that - brings terror and the creation of man - that brings joy—provides part of the attraction of science fiction, FOUND GIRL'S CLASS RING Canon McMillan Call Ed 238,4739. Klass, an associate professor of English who writes science fiction under the pen name William Tenn, brought up the question of what makes science fiction authors different from other writers. In his reply, Zelazny explained that he . started: reading science fiction for the sense of entering new. worlds, not as a form of prediction; and he felt that of writers, in general, felt a sense of exhilaration from entering new worlds. The discussion then turned to the possibility of scientifically charting human behavior. Pournelle felt that such a charting would destroy man, and spoke out against behavioral psychologists such According to a survey of former Commonwealth Campus students, University Park .is more anxiety-producing than the campuses. "We're going to see explosions," Dickson added, saying that advances in. laser technology will make the transistor look "silly." He stressed, however, that the revolution is going to be in Suburban zoning condemned HARRISBURG Gov. Shapp yesterday issued a strong condemnation of so-called suburban snob zoning which, he said, serves only to "perpetuate the prerogatives of the wealthy." The governor told a special land use policy conference here: "In fact, at present, because of inflated prices, most of our working and middle class citizens—our steelworkers, engineers, white collar workers, truck drivers and others— have no opportunity to live in areas in which they desire to rent or buy." SEMINAR INTEREST GROUPS EXHIBITS the world, and . not in human nature. Pournelle pointed out all literature deals with describing man's nature, and science fiction provides a different perspective to this question., `.'We examine the potential of man, what lies outside the maps of the known," Klass added.
