few key players; the Lion
booters retained one thing

During his reign of terror at
Beaver Stadium, Bruce
Bannon developed a style for
playing the defensive end
position
The idea was simple
enough, be quick off the ball,
go quickly through the
offensive linemen and put the
opposing quarterback quickly
on his back. As the record will
bear out, the system had its
merits and got its results.
The concept is to get to the
passer before he has time to
read "War and Peace" and
pass the pigskin along to one
of his men. Some ' call it
pressure defense and Bannon
did it best.
This coming Saturday
afternoon will tell if Penn
State will use that system
again this year. If the Lions
are going to throw the blanket
over Stanford quarterback
Mike Boryla, Bannon-like
intimidation amounts to the
easiest way. -
The job of putting_on this
pressure from the outside
belongs to juniors Dave Graf
and Greg Murphy. Graf has
the experience, Murphy has
the potential.-
The fact that Stanford's

football team and is slightly
ahead of John Reihner for the

"I was.greatly relieved to
get Dave back," White said,
"since he is the only player
with experience to any great
extent at the position. I
thought I lost him for
awhile."
White pointed to Graf's
ability to stop the run, but

is completely healed and

this weekend for lowa City to
scout the lowa-Michigan fray.
