Larson urged nearly 1.650 Summer Term graduates to use honesty and integrity in their professional and personal_ relationships during commencement exercises Aug. 16 in Rec Hall. Relating honesty to trust. Larson, added: "It has been said that the greatest punishment for the dishonest is that they are not believed, even when they speak the truth. The dishon est must needlessly contrive as is evident by many hap penings in our contemporary society." Defining integrity as the courage of one's convictions. Larson said, "This included the ability to hold fast to what in your considered judgment and belief is right. no matter what the odds are against you. Those of fine integrity are able to accept setbacks. and even injustices." Larson told graduates the attributes of honesty and integrity are .not talents or skills but in§tead good habits. "And, like the formation of other characteristics, they require constant practice until they are imbedded in our Tutoring benefits The Educational Opportunities Program offers the largest tutoring program on campus, and it is a program set up specifically for EOP students. David London. student coordinator for the tutoring 4 .. program. said a number of students outside the program ask for tutors. - "If I have a tutor available and no one has a standing request for him. I will recommend the student. But the EOP4 students get first choice." London said. The EOP tutoring program uses all volunteer tutors London's job is to match the tutor with the student. • London said most of the tutors are ones he has used in tli• past. Sometimes he receives their names from key personnel in a specific department: other times the tutors just walk in and offer to help. London said he finds tutors in all subjects. But, he said. this tutoring program is really beneficial to only a small percentage of students. He said the student has to do most of the work on his own, but tutoring can only help to a limited extent if he lacks basic study skills. • Last year about 150 students the major, ity of them EOP students took advantage of the program. The only other tutoring programs offered on campus are set up through honorary societies. which tutor only in specific areas. A University-wide tutoring program was disbanded in 1971.
