come around by opening game."
Opening game pits Penn Stale against
Navy in what is becoming a traditional warm
up for the real season. Onkotz remembers
when it wasn't always that easy.
"We lost to them by one point in my
sophomore year and that's when Joe (Pater
no) made some changes. Some of the seniors
were hurt and we ended up with seven sophs
in the lineup in the following game," he said.
One unfortunate result of the Onkotz-
Reid era is that fact that Penn State fans
will not put up with one-point losses any
more—to anybody. The pressure is on Penn
State every time it takes the field. But if
the players hold to Onkotz's philosophy of
maktne your own breaks, everything could
fall into place this season.
If it doesn't, there's always next year's
group of sophs to look forward to.

Lions split for Blue-White affair

When Blue-White gaino time
rolled around' last spring the
big question in the minds of
Penn State, football fans cen
tered around .Joe Taterno's
choice at the quarterback slot.
But even when the Lions
spilt up the squad with Bob
Parsons handling one team and
Mike Cooper the other. the
final score of the game didn't
really bring things into focus.
Parsons' team won the af
fair. 48-32,
but both candidates
passed and ran the ball quite
well. So the situation was still
pretty much up in the air.
The fact that Cooper was at
the helm when Navy bro:::ht
its 7970 squad into Beaver
Stadium for the Lions' opener
was riot a direct result of the
Blue-White game.
Mary's Job
The current Blue-White
classic, scheduled fcr tomor
row afternoon, is not going to
be a determining factor in the
quarterback assignment for
the fall, either. After proving
himself by snapping the Lions
out of a unexpected nosedive
last year, junior John Huf
nagel's position is about as
certain as Paterno's.
The reel concentration
toward providing a solid game
type situation in the Blue-
White contest is dividing up the
team's personnel as evenly as
possible. Paterno and his staff
believe they handled that pro
blem fairly well and the game
should be a good wrap-up for
the Lions' spring training
season.
"I think this is going to be
