PAGE EIGHT. North 'Halls: Hottes' Win Contest FRATERNITY DIVISION Alpha Gamma Rho's second place Allocation Will Assist Beef, Sheep Research Nine-hundred and fifty thou sand dollars will be allocated by the General State Authority to i the University for the College of Agriculture's beef and sheep barn expansion program. The! exact date for the construction' to begin is indefinite as build-1 ing plans will be submitted to. the General State Authority on March 17 and interested! architects will subsequently submit their bids for construc-; tion. Paul J. Phillips, Jr., assist-; ant professor of Animal In-1 dustry, said expansion is neces sary primarily because of the; limited facilities currently available for research work in the beef and sheep program.! He stressed that "the main in-: crease will be in the research', program rather than the live-! stock program, the number of! cattle and sheep will not be, increased but transferred to; the new barn." The barn expansion will con sist of a combination beef and; sheep barn with several ad-; joining wings which will be used for research work and, for classroom.i and offices. Study in Guadalajara, Mexico The Guadalajara Summer School, a fully accredited University of Arizona program, conducted in cooperation with professors from Stanford Uni versity, University of California, and Guadalajara, will offer June 28 to Aug. 7, art, folklore, geography, history, language and literature courses. Speaking further on the ex pansion program, Phillips said, "This is going to allow us to give more balance to the pro gram in our department. The pure-bred program is strong on an international basis while the beef and sheep program is limited on this basis on ac count of the facilities avail able. Grads, Undergraduates The greatest importance ofl the expansion is that it will enable undergraduate and es-1 pecially graduate students in the cattle and sheep program to have greatly increased fa— cilities for research work." After the new barn is com pleted the old beef and sheep barns will serve as classrooms and residence halls, Phillips explained. Concerning the employees of the new barn, Phillips said, "There will. be no more em ployees, the ,increase will' be in the number of graduate stu dents in the research wing." Starts WEDNE S DAY 7.
