The Big Red, boasting one of the East's strongest teams,
had the misfortune of meeting both Lehigh and Navy early in
the year. They are 1-14 to date, meeting Harvard today.
Navy, the current class of the East, is at Temple today
while Pitt, depleted by ineligibilities, opens its season at home
with Syracuse's defending EIWA champs.
The Panthers lost five men due to academic difficulties earlier
this week. A sixth, Ken Barr, is out for the season with an injury,
ind a seventh. Jeff Ware, signed a pro football contract last month
with the New York Jets of the American League.
Pitt coach Rex Peety said Thursday night that he didn't
know what he would do for a 191-pounder and a heavyweight
against Syracuse. Both spots were wiped out in the losses.

THE BELL TELEPHONE COMPANIES
SALUTE:
After promoting Gene Lindacher (8.A.. 1957) up the
ladder from Traffic Assistant in Ridgewood to Traffic Mana
ger for the Paterson District, New Jersey Bell handed him
a new challenge. They named him Plant Service Super
visor for Repair in the 43,000-customer Dover area.
This meant that after managing operators and their
supervisors (all women), he was suddenly put in charge
of a highly technical group of repairmen' and other tele
phone technicians.

of his outstanding performance in Traffic Department.
Knowing that good managers can step into new situations
easily, New Jersey Bell did not hesitate to move Gene into
the more technical Dover job.
New Jersey Bell considers Gene a versatile young mana•
ger with an unlimited future. Not a bad reputation to have!
Gene Lindacher, like many young men, is impatient to
make things happen for his company and himself. There
are few places where such restlessness is more welcomed
or rewarded than in the fast•growing telephone business.
