Davison, assistant dean of women, said recently, A third group, composed of stu dents interested in public affairs and social service, folded earlier this year because of a lack of leadership, she said. THE PURPOSE of the language houses, which is to give the stu dents facility in the language, has been more successful in the Span ish house because of the native speaker contact the girls have with foreign students. The two educational groups were organized to help students interested in some aspect of edu cation learn more about the field, she said. The education groups were also given Teaching Situational Tests to see how they would fare as teachers. THE RESULTS of these tests will probably be ready next fall, she said. Mrs. Davison explained that these groups were organized as serious endeavors and not as social groups. The groups have their own suite area in Simmons, however, and have become close from living together, she added. "Now we are interested in see ing if the group wants to continue next year and to see if other groups would be interested in forming," she said. "There is room for an additional group or two," she added. Under this plan, at least one meeting would be held in each residence area during the school year. A revision hi the elections code was approved which provides that 'any elections' candidate who vio lates the code will b.e ineligible to run in the new election held for that office. This restriction, however, would not prevent her from running in any other AWS,slections. A change was.also made in the election campaign posters which will permit candidates to list only three activities, preferably activ ities which qualify them for the elected position. Groups' Failures Seen in Negative Action By ELLEN BRADLEY Many peace movements have failed in the past because the peace groups do nothing but pro test, Daniel Singer, secretary treasurer of the Council for a Liveable World, said Friday. "In order to be effective," he told a group interested in Sense, Students for Peace, "lobbyists must put -themselves in a position of responsibility. This is -where the peace movement has fallen down in the past. "If the protestant wins, he has nothing to offer. He must support or offer , - a positive program," Singer said. A recent example of this is the peace movement's support of a third party candidate in the' 1962 Massachusetts senatorial- election, he explained. The candidate lost to Democrat Edward Kennedy, the President's brother, "The candidate- never really thought he had a chance," Singer said. Lobbyists must also have confi dence that inside the government people are striving for the same things they are, he said. One way to attain this confidence is to keep' well informed, Singer said. In formation is readily accessible to everyone who bothers to look for it, he added. "One" way to get its out of this jam is through the Council for a Liveable World, recently changed from the Council for Abolishing War," Singer said. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1963 he explained, people in Congress can speak on important issues without fear of political reprisal, which they would be unable to meet in the next election. THE COUNCIL provides finan cial backing for those Congress men who support responsible, po litically acceptable programs, Singer, who is general counsel for the Federation of American Scientists, was graduated from Swarthmore in 1951 and from Yale, Law School in 1954.
