JANUARY, 19. 1963 Green Bay Picked As Team of Year The mighty Green Bay Packers, winners of their second straight National Football League championship, topped the baseball champion New York Yankees for the 1962 “Team of the Year” award in the Associated Press’ annual year-end poll. It was better than 2-to-l for the-Packers over the Yanks in the voting by the 191 sports writers and sportscasters who participated in the balloting. The Packers received 121 : on a 3-2-1 basis, to 43 first places and 223 points for’ the Yankees, who won two straight World Series. League Commissioner Pete Rozelle confirmed yesterday that he has received secret court documents concerning betting on games by Baltimore Colts owner Carroll Rosenbloom and is investi gating them. Rozelle issued a brief statement that the documents, stemming from a 2-year-old court case in volving the Baltimore owner had been turned over to the NFL of fice. - “We are exploring the allega tions made in them,” Rozelle said. Rosenbloom’s lawyers submit ted the documents. It is not clear exactly what connection they have with the current NFL investiga tion of betting rumors. 1 Lawyers for the Baltimore own er said it would be a miscarriage of justice if they were made pub lic, but insisted they be given to Rozelle to protect the interests of Rosenbloom. The all-academic squad was originated by the college sports publicists in 1952 to honor out standing scholars among the na tion’s top football players and to encourage high school athletes to recognize the close, relationship between scholarship and sports at the college level. Galardi, the Lions’ 1962 captain, and halfback Gursky,.are enrolled in the college of business admin istration, majoring in marketing. Farkas, who graduated at the end of the fall term, majored in physical education and plans to pursue graduate work in this field. All three were named sev eral times throughout their grid careers to State's Athletic Honor Roll for scholastic excellence. Included on the latest all-aca demic squad are Terry Baker of Oregon State, Pat Richter of Wis consin, Paul Flatley of North western, Steve Barnett of Oregon and Pat Culpepper and Johnny Treadwell of Texas.
