Lion Thinclads Host Spartans
Penn State track fans will get their first chance in almost a year to see the Lion thin
clads in action on the home oval today when Michigan State invades Beaver Fieli The field
events will , begin at 1:30, running events at 2:00. P
State has not run a meet on its own track since May 20 of last year, when it beat the
powerful Quantico Marines, 681/6-65 5/8. *
- The Spartans have good sprinters and distance men, but are not especially strong in
the field events. .
Lion distance. star Steve Moorhead will meet an old foe,
mile run. Moorhead beat Young, ■'+. it. *

since both runners' finished in

meet with 65% points. Michigan
State had 49%, Ohio State '46.
The Lion captain was the victor

weeks ago. He finished the 3000-
meter steeplechase in the Ohio
Belays at Columbus in 6:44.1 to
edge Young, the, 1961 champion,
who finished second. ;
Gerry Norman will also run
against Young in the mile and
the two-mile. The: longer race
should be.close with both men in
their specialty. - t
TONY WAYNE, with a 100-yard
dash time of 9.9 seconds, and
Steve Popp- wiU be up against
Michigan State's : Zack Ford in the
sprints. Ford nipped Pehn State’s
star sprinter Bobby Brown in the
220-yard dash last year.
The Spartans have plenty of
good material for future years,
with two sophomores being espe
cially outstanding. Sherman Lew
is, the leading scorer in this year's
Big. Ten, indoor meet, will give

Lewis won the Big Ten indoor

and placed second in the 60-yard
