Against 'Weak' Pitt
• Penn State's cross country team will open its Aual meet]
season against Pitt at 1 p.m. today on the golf course, but
Lion coach Chick Werner doesn't think the Panthers will
provide a true test of his squad's ability.

By DAVE LEONARD
Werner said that Michigan
State is the most dangerous of
these.
"They have some great sopho
mores who can knock many of last
year's varsity men right out of
their starting positions," he said.
Michigan State gave Stale its
toughest competition last year.
The Lions just squeaked out a
21-22 win over the Spartans in
a dual meet. They have Clay
Ward, their number one run
ner, back to harass the Lions
this year.
The Lion freshman team will
also open its season against Pitt
this afternoon. Werner and frosh
coach Norm Gordon have adopted
a wait and see attitude about the
freshmen.
