SATURDAY; SEPTEMBER' 23. 1961 $8,500 Collected For Class Gift Fund A total of $8,500 has been collected for the Class Gift Fund during the first three days of registration, David R. Grubbs, senior class president announced, last night. An additional $699 has ben pledged for the fund. Working from figures compiled by Robert E. Beam, director of the Alumni Fund, Grubbs said that this figure is al ready ahead of the total amount collected last year. A total of $B,lOO in cash and $542 in pledges were collected for the fund last year. No breakdown giving the amounts by classes was avail able by press lime last night. Grubbs said that before regis tration the class ol '62 was the "poorest” of the three classes. As of last June the class of ’62 had $3,100, the class of '63 had over $5,000 and the class of ’64 had almost $4,000. One reason for the low senior figures, Grubbs said, was that since the class gift fund has been established for only three years, the class of ’62 did not contribute as freshmen. In the two previous years (classes of '6O and 61) the ad ministration had given $2 to the fund for every $1 contributed by the members of that class, Grubbs said. This has been dis- Will TODAY continued for this year and for all future classes. This year’s seniors will prob ably vote on their class gift dur ing winter term registration. Grubbs said he is setting up a committee within the senior class advisory board to sift suggestions for the ’62 gift. He said that ballots will prob ably be available during winter registration. It is hoped, he said, that by June graduation the ’62 gift will be ready for use. | Last year’s class gift was the I boat dock and landing area for | the Stone Valley Recreation Area. International Students An informal orientation pro gram for new international stu dents will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today in the Eisenhower Chapel Lounge.
