Lion Golfers
Beat Bisons
For 6th Win

The Penn State golf team
assured itself of no worse
than a .500 season by squeez
ing out a 4-3 victory over
Bucknell for its sixth win
against four losses on the Uni
versity course yesterday.
As in many cases this year, it
took an extra-hole match to de
cide the outcome of the meet.
The score was tied at three
wins apiece going into the final
match between State's Dave
Miller and Pete Sang.
Miller was two up after 16 holes
but Sang won
the 17 th when
Miller missed a
3-foot putt. Then •; f||
he evened the
match on the
last hole when
Miller blew a
foot and a half
putt.
Sang couldn't
stand prosperity,
however. He
dubbed his drive aWIWiWwHM
on the extra
hole and Miller won the match
with a par.
Lion captain John Morton
dropped a 5 and 4 decision to Bob
Etzweiler.
Tom Balling won an easy 4 and
3 victory over Bucknell's Curt
Mull. Balling shared medalist
honors with Bob Rutherford, each
firing 3 over par 725.
Rich Gilison and Jack Mere
dith both scored easy wins, Gili
son beat Jerry Singer 6 and 4
while Meredith downed A 1 Pat
'rson 5 and 4.
Bob Swahn lost a heartbreaker
to Don Mather when he missed a
1-foot putt on the last hole.
Summary

Schad (B) defeated Rutherford. l-up (19
hole 3).
Balling (PS) defeated Mull, 4 and l.
C.ilison (PS) defeated Singer, 6 and 4.

Bucknell Stops Frosh
Penn State’s freshman baseball
team travelled to Bucknell yester
day for its second road game, and
lost to the fired-up Bisons, 4-0.
The Lion Cubs have won all their
home games this year for a 4-2
log.
The win by the Bisons avenged
a 6-1 Nittany victory on Beaver
Field last month.

BOSTON (/P) _ The Boston Red
Sox are in such a batting slump
that a base on balls looks like- a
full-bloom rally.
While losing four l of their last
five games—the last four in a row
—the Red Sox have managed to
get only 14 hits' in 140 at bats, a
.100 clip. As a result, their season
team batting average dropped to
.218.

Ty Cobb was reported in fair con
dition and resting comfortably
yesterday at Emory University
Hospital.
His physician said Cobb, who
will be 75 in December, was ad
mitted Monday for treatment of
arthritis and diabetes.
