APRIL 27. 1961 Liberals Postpone Election of Chairman A vigorous pre-meeting tele phone campaign for control of Liberal party ended -up in a draw Tuesday night, when the election of a party chairman was postponed indefinitely. For half an hour before Tues day's steering committee Meeting, Dale Harris, acting party chair man, and Theodore Simon, leader of a rebel group within the party, held a telephone campaign in an attempt to get enough votes to control the party. After the meeting started and both Miss Harris and Simon were nominated to lead the party, a biller discussion led to the reopening of nominations and to postponement of elec tions. Charges and counter-charges echoed back and forth at the meeting. Simon compared the present position of Liberal party to that of a corporation that has gone bankrupt. A bankrupt firm is put in a receivership to get it back on its feet, Simon said. Liberal party is "bankrupt," he exclaimed, adding "it needs new leadership to give it renewed vigor."
