For Rush Periods
Th e Panhellenic Council
heard two new rush proposals
last night which differ • pri
marily on whether concentra
ted rush should be held at the
end of the fall term when no
classes are in session or during the
first part of the winter term.
This makes a total of three pro
posals being considered by the
council.
The first proposal presented by
Janet Carlisle, rush chairman, was
very similar to the one presented
to the council at the last meet
ing.
Both of these proposals call for
the concentration of rush at the
end of the fall term with sorority
women and rushees paying spe
cial room and board fees to re
main on campus during the rush
ing period.
The proposal presented last
night calls for only one round
of chatter dates while the pro
posal presented at the last meet
ing calli for two rounds and an
extra day on campus. The fee
for room and );o: -r'-" 7--

The third proposal asks for the
concentration of rush during the
beginning of the winter term and
provides for two rounds of chat
ter dates.
. All proposals allow for fireside
talks on Oct. 1 and V, registration
on Oct. 23 and open houses on
Nov. 4,5, 11 and 12.
Some objections to holding
rush when the University is not
operating are that the addition
al fees might reduce the num
ber of rushees and also be a bur
den to sorority women partici
pating.
The problem of transportation
was also voiced since those par
ticipating in rush would probably
be unable to get rides home for'
vacation and would have to use
public transportation.
Some objections against concen
trating rush in the beginning of
the winter term were that it
would be detrimental to grades
and would extend rushing over
too long n period since it would
begin with registration on Oct.
23 and end with ribboning on Jan.
