Committee Surveys
Simmons Residents
Ey ROCHELLE MICHAELS
The food and housing committee in Simmons hall is con
ducting_a survey of the residents in order to determine the
most common complaints which the residents have about the
living and dining conditions.
Although a group of this type exists in every residence
hall area, the Simmons committee'
is the first to take a survey.
The initial step taken by the
committee was to meet with Ed
ward S. Evers, supervisor of the
Sim:lions dining hall, and pre
sent him with several complaints
and suggestions brought out in
residence hall meetings.
At that time, they also got
Evers' approval for the ques
tionnaire, according to Diane
Steinman, a member of the
food and housing committee.
The survey form begins with
report of the meeting with Evers..!
stating the reasons why one sery-,!
ing line had been closed for the,
first half of the lunch hour and
why dinner could not start 151 1
minutes •earlier and breakfast end
15 minutes later.
The reason states that fewer;
people are eating in Simmons
this semester, consequently the j
additional cost is not warranted.!
The questionnaire then asks
specific questions on the food
and housing situation which has
received criticism from Sim
mons residents.
The questions dealing with
food service are concerned with!

Housing questions pertain to
the quality of room service, the
need for hall ashtrays and trash
cans and the need for cleaning
blankets.

Eisman then said, "Yes, in Rus
sia they still elect their repre
sentatives. They get 99.9 per cent
turn out at the polls too. So
what?"
Alexander also said his com
mittee may try to work out an
other bone of contention, that
those wishing to run for Assembly
be allowed to get a nomination
by petition.
The present SGA constitution
provides for this, but the revised
constitution made no mention of
it. John Brandt, former chairman
of Campus party, disputed this at
Assembly, asking that provision
be made for such nomination.
