PAGE EIGHT Inside SG, Leis Sees In Policy SGA may be able to issue a statement of policy concern ing discriminatory clauses in campus organization charters, but the statement itself wouldn’t be effective in eliminating the clauses, according to Lillian Leis, U.-Soph. “Since Assembly members are elected by so few voters, SGA policies actually reflect personal feelings,” Miss Leis said. "Because of this, a ruling on discrimination clauses would not reflect the feelings of the entire student body.” Miss Leis’ comments were based on the issue now prevalent at other schools which have tried to set a definite policy in granting organizations charters if they draw up constitutions containing discriminatory clauses S p ea k ing of private groups such as frater nities and soror ities, Miss Leis said she did not think the ministration on any campus should be able to designate who become member of the Comm enling Ml«» l,»t» on another campus issue, that of having a University bookstore, Miss Leis said she was in favor of having one whether it wasi set up as an institutional or co-' operative effort, If a University bookstore is es tablishecT, a professional manag-, er would be worthwhile employ-; mg to run it, Miss Leis said. “Time would decide whether we could afford to have one,” Miss Leis said, “but it would def initely be a help in taking some of the responsibility from a single student.” i V/ise-! Miss Leis said she was disappointed that no action was taken by Albert E. Diem, vice president in charge of business adminis tration, about the parking prob lem on campus. "I think we (Assembly) sug gested sufficient changes to mer it a trial period for the plan,” she said. On still another issue, that of reorganization of SGA and what type of structure a student gov ernment should have, Miss Leis made these comments. “Reorganization of SGA could eliminate the overlapping creat ed by so many different bodies doing the same things. “If a reorganized SGA can compensate for the lack in stu dent interest and a lack in rep resentation of the entire student body, it would be assured of be ing effective on all campus' is sues.” THE DAILY COLLEGIAN.
