THURSDAY, MARCH 9. W6l Elis Rated Over Lions In IC4A's Although Penn State's track team boasts a perfect record (3-0), the Lions are not rated as one of the top three con tenders in .Saturday's IC4A championships in Madison Square Garden. Most Eastern coaches and sportswriters rate Yale as the team to beat with Manhattan, Villanova, and Penn State close behind in that order. Princeton Coach Pete Morgan calls Yale the “best balanced team in the East,” and the Elis’ record 1 makes his statement look modest. Yale placed in 11 of the 13 events in the recent Heptagonal Games, outpointing second place Navy by 22 points. The Elis have two defending champions in Jim Stack (600) and Tom Carroll (1000>. Bobby Mack has run a 4:13.7 mile and a 9:03.8 two mile this season. In addition Yale has two 6-6 high jumpers, a 14-foot pole vaulter, competent broad jumpers and Jay Luck, who runs the sprints, hurdles and mile relay. Four other defending cham pions besides Stack and Carroll •will return this year. John Thom as, who set the meet record in the high jump last year, will be back along with Villanova's Frank Budd (60-yard dash), Notre Dame’s Ron Gregory (mile) and Dart mouth’s Tom .Laris (2 mile). Stack will face some rough competition in the 600. Jim Wed derburn of NYU, Dick Edmunds of Princeton and Kye Courtney of Manhattan have recorded fast times this year. George Metzgar and Don Davies will compete for State. Bill Bachrach of Yale, Bob Lowe of Brown and Gerry Nor man of State will battle Laris in the 2-mile. cJCed J Pizza & Sub Shop 15" Subs 21 Ingredients LENTEN SNACK COSMO SPECIAL Meatless Sub AD 8-0596 400 W.
