FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 24, 1961 Mat Coach Undecided On Lineup Charlie Speidel can't decide on a lineup for tomorrow night's Rec Hall encounter with arch rival Pitt and even if he could he wouldn't tell anybody. The wily mat mentor may be cooking up a few surprises for the Panthers, who are in top contention for the Eastern title. Penn State's only certain start er is Johnston Oberly at heavy weight. The EIWA king will probably meet Panther Bob Gu zik. Guzik held Oberly to a 2-2 draw last year to help Pitt gain a 14-14 tie with the Lions and ruin their hopes for a perfect season. State had gone through eight meets without a loss before meet ing the Panthers. At the other end of the lineup, sophomore Denny Slattery should wrestle at 123. Rex Perry, Pitt's coach will probably counter with his unbeaten junior Dick Martin. Speidel will probably use Tony Scordo at 130 but from 137 to 191 the possibilities are too numerous to list. He could use co-captain Jerry Seckler anywhere from 147 to 191. Seckler has seen action at 147, 157, and 167 this year, and he even wrestled at 177 last year. Pifer could start at 157, 167 or even 177. Although most effec tive at 147, Neil Turner could move up a weight to 157. - But regardless of the possibil ities, Speidel will be at a defin ite disadvantage. Because Pitt is the visiting team, he'll have to send his grappler out first at the start of each match, If Perry de sires, he will have the chance to make a last minute change. 7 sa— • Agew,,C4, , ;;IV „e44 , 0514ba - CI Sunday, February 20, at 10:SO a.m. z. 4 .( SPEAKER: Reverend Charles W. Albright 3.s v, I 4 Houk Predicts For American (Another in a series of major league team prospects written under the managers' own bu tines.) ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (JP) The Yankees will be a solid con tender to repeat in the American League. But I look for a rough race right down to the wire. Naturally, I realize my own job is not going to be easy. After all, I'm taking over from Casey Sten gel, one of the best managers of them all. We lost some fine talent to the new Washington and Los Angeles clubs, guys like Bob Cerv, Bobby Shantz, Eli Grba and Duke Maas. We could use another starting pitcher, but overall I don't think our pitching is weak. Such regu lars as Whitey Fofd, Bob Turly, Art Ditmar, Ralph Terry, Jim Coates, Ryne Duren and Bill Stafford give us a sound nucleus. In addition, several of our younger pitchers will be given every chance to make the club. They include Billy Short, Hal Stowe, Jim Bronstad and Johnny Communion Breakfast Guest of Honore Most Reverend John C, McCormick Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown Diocese HUB Dining Rooms A and B Tickets: $1.25 available at 207 Chapel THE DAILY COLLEGIAN. We got lefty Danny Mc- Devitt from the Dodgers and he could help. Except for third base, I can just about write down the rest of the Yankees lineup right now. At third, I expect Deron Johnson, a long ball hitter up from Rich mond, to give Cletis Boyer a bat tle for the regular spot. Bill Skowron will be at first basp, Bobby Richardson at second and Tony Kubek at third. Joe De maestri is an excellent utility in fielder. I'm going to go with Hector Lo pez in left field. Mickey Mantle, of course, will be in center and Roger Maris in right. The catching is the best in the league with Yogi Berra, Elston Howard and Johnny Blanchard. Yogi will double as a left fielder while Howard gives us protection at first base and in the outfield. As I said, I'm not discounting the other clubs. Baltimore has that terrific young pitching and a good infield. Chicago strengthened its pitching and Cleveland has im proved. -tw f ,,i.im. ! , 4 7t . iff115 , T..11w.p..A,m -- f:?57i: , ; . , ?
