PAGE SIX DuMars, Fridley End Heated Cage Rivalry Mark DuMars and John Fridley can resume their friendship tomorrow night after the Pitt - Penn State game in the Pitt Field House. DuMars and Fridley, teammates on Sharon High School's 1957 state championship club, have waged a not-so-friendly rivalry the last three years but * * * tomorrow's tilt will be the last time they'll oppose each other DuMars for one couldn't be happier because he rates Frid ley as one of the toughest defen sive players he has faced dur ing his sensational three-year stint at Mt. Nittany. "Next to Jerry West, he's the only defensive player I really fear," DuMars said. "He's really tough and all this stuff about our friendship ends when the whistle blows. I remem ber in my sophomore year he knocked me into the basket sup ports on a drive and I needed the 'smelling salts to recover." In high school, DuMars and Fridley gave Sharon an unbeat able one-two punch. DuMars was the top scorer on the 1957 squad with a 15-point average while the 6-5 Fridley av eraged 14 points a game and was the leading rebounder. "We were 28-0," DuMars said. "but we never would have come close without John." This year the DuMars-Fridley rivalry means more than usual because both boys are captains of their respective teams. PENNSYLVANIA * * * Trockmen Meet Bucks Tomorrow Penn State's undefeated indoor track team meets Ohio . State, a two-time loser, at Columbus to morrow in its final dual meet of the season, but Coach Chick Wer ner is probably thinking more about the Buckeye's three beefy shot putters than a possible per fect season. Although Ohio State has lost its only two dual meets to date, 91-50 to Indiana and 64 1 / 2 to 61% to Michigan State, they have one of the most balanced shot put trios in the Big 10. George Mirka heads the Buck eye weightmen but Ron Weidy and Sam Tidmore, a defensive end on the Ohio State football team are right behind. All three can do 50 feet plus. Werner has good cause to worry because the shot put is Penn State's weakest event. The vet eran coach is taking only one weightman on this trip, Bill Si mon, a junior from Merlon, Pa. In their two victories over Navy and Army, State failed to place in the shot, but sparkling performances by unheralded soph omores and a handful of veterans made up for the sweep. Five Penn State thinclads will be putting undefeated records on the line in the Buckeye meet. Gerry Norman has swept both the mile and the two-mile in State's two victories. Bob Brown is unbeaten in the 60-yard dash, Howie Deardorff in the 1000, Dick Campbell in the high jump, and Ciro Risoldi in the pole vault. Birdis Coleman, a sophomore with potential, will make his var sity debut for the Lions in the 440. IM Wrestling Entries Entries for IM wrestling will be accepted in the IM Office in.
