Navy Matmen Beat Lions, 17-11
Navy gained three decisions
and a tie in the last four
matches to hand , the Penn
State wrestling team its third
loss - of the season at Annapolis,
Md., Saturday, 17-11.
John Trojan (167), Phil Myer
(177) and Dave Hayes (191) lost
the decisions, and Lion co-captain
Johnston Oberly was held to a
2-2 draw by Navy's undefeated
heavyweight, John Griffith,
State could manage only three
decisions over' the underrat
ed Middies. Denny Slattery won
his match at 123. co-captain
Jerry Seckler pulled out of a
two-match losing streak with a
one-point verdict at 147 and
Ron Pifer won his fifth match
of the season at 157.

Gary Thomas scored a first
period takedown over Scordo
and was never headed. Thomas
scored twice more on take
downs and gained three points
for a near fall on his way to a
10-6 win.
Navy's Mike Harman defeated
Brubaker, 5-0, on a first-period
takedown, a third period reversal
and a point for riding time.
Seekler scored five points in
the opening period on a takedown,
a reversal and a one-point predie
ment and staved off a late rally
by Bob Smith for a 7-6 decision.
Smith scored all his points on re
versals.
Pifer Vs pped John McGrath's
unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win.
The Lion junior used a second
period escape and riding time
to gain the decision.
Pete Nelson seined three points
in the second period to erase Tro
jan's 2-0 lead and added a point
for riding time to make the final
score 4-2.
Navy captain Oick Royston
outscored Phil Myer, 3-2, in the
last period to gain an 8-5 win at
Frosh Grapplers,
Cagers Gain Wins
Two Penn State freshman teams
won 'over the weekend while one
suffered defeat. The frosh cagers
walloped Berhend Center, 81-31, at
Rec Hall and Dave Adams' fresh
man matmen downed.the Navy
plebes at Annapolis, 9-11. The
frosh thinclads lost to the Middies,
75-25.

Hayes, a sophomore who has
been practicing with the team
only a short while, was held to
a second period escape by Tom
Über. Mean While Über was
racking up seven points on two
takedowns, an escape, a predic
ament point and riding lime.
Oberly scored a first-period
takedown but that was as far as
he could go, Griffith rode him for
the entire second stanza and then
pulled an escape in the final pe-
